Flash content usually doesn't come as a downloadable file. Typically it's embedded in web sites, and activated via Javascript.
So you can't just play it with an external application in most cases.

So you'd first need to get Flash working properly. Ask in an Adobe forum, if you need help.
To test your Flash installation:

If you don't want Flash at all, simply uninstall it, and you won't be bothered again. Enjoy your web experience.

downloaded 17MB flash installer from Adobe website. This download did not run properly, reporting that it had some error. Still plagued with FireFox queries about Flash.

Don't much care about having flash plugin in FireFox. Prefer to download a flash file, scan with virus checker, then play it with VideoLAN.

So I disabled Flash plugin to "Never Ask" but still the noxious popup "FireFox has prevented the outdated plugin "Adobe Flash" from running on helpx.adobe.com. Continue Blocking ? Allow ... X"

Freshly downloaded Flash installer encountered an error. Updating was unsuccessful.

Not the ideal solution, but I uninstalled everything called flash on mu computer, and suddenly it's a lot faster, especially FireFox.

The nagging popup is gone.

I've detested Adobe from the first encounter, and it looks like my intuition was spot on.

So irresponsible, to publish bad software while having the weight to make it an industry standard. A morally degenerate approach to business.

The Vomit Award goes to Adobe this week, with AVG TuneUp running a close second.
