Why won't the WOWway.net home page load using Firefox?
Not sure if this posted successfully the first time, so forgive me if it's a repeat.
The home page at wowway.net has a Facebook space in the middle that displays a "Loading" message when I go there with Firefox (it's OK with Safari). Since Facebook never loads, the rest of the page never loads, and I can't access my email.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
- Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
- Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
- Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
- Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
Thanks a lot for the advice. I went through each step. The page did load in Safe Mode, but not when I restarted Firefox with all extensions and add-ons disabled. So the problem still exists.
You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
This didn't work either, but I appreciate the suggestion.
After trying it I went to the WOW page (original problem persists), then restarted in Safe Mode again (no problem). Then restarted Firefox (extensions and addons still disabled) and got the original endless loop again.
Thanks again for trying.
You will need to contact Wide Open West (WOWWay) Support by going to:
http://www.wowway.com/wow/help-support/contact-us
and let their tech support department try to troubleshoot this issue for you. It might be a problem that they may have to look into further. The reason I say further is because Wide Open West (WOWWay) contracts with a company called Synacor to mange both their web portal - wowway.net - and their e-mail service. Synacor also has this type of management agreement with other ISP's. A full list of the ISPs that they have management agreements with is at:
http://www.synacor.com/customers/
So this may be an issue that WOW's technical support people may have to get Synacor's people working on, but because you pay WOW every month for service, their support people are you first point of contact about this. I had a similar problem with WOWWay's toolbar in that it wasn't compatible with the newer versions of Firefox and I had to do the same thing by contacting WOW tech support department and they escalated the issue to Synacor and they resolved it by releasing a new version of their toolbar for download that was compatible with the newer versions of Firefox.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem
