During FF10 installation in W7, the installation stops after extracting setup files. Also happens for FF9.

I want to install Firefox 10 in W7. It extracts the setup files, then asks me under what name/user I want to install; either as current user or as administrator (strange, because, the current user IS the administrator). Whatever option I choose here, the installation is discontinued. Windows task manager simply shows the proces stopping. The same thing happens with FF9, what's up?I want to install Firefox 10 in W7. Glad you solved it.

I am new to Windows 7 myself, having previously used XP but my recollection was that the UAC type prompts may have a flashed up in an Admin account, whilst installing Firefox, but then just proceeded with the install without me needing to explicitly re-enter a password or do anything else.

I note our standard instructions

do not mention any thing special about needing to 'rightclick>open as administrator' in W7

I have not got the time to think about this right now, but I did notice a possibly related thread where I made some comments and it could be worth you watching what transpires see /questions/918125

Hi John, thanks for the effort. I have in fact solved it in the meantime. I got the same response from another setup file, leading me to believe it was something in W7 that was causing the problem. Indeed, I simply needed to 'rightclick>open as administrator' and my problem was solved. A little quirk in windows I knew existed but had, in all honesty, forgotton about.

However, it is remarkable that the FF installation manager ASKS me explicitly whether I want to install using administrator rights, but fails to process my answer!
