There is a user script which may help. You will have to install an extension like Greasemonkey.

Open any new site with a long page size and many headlines. Or a page with many comments. Read. On a popular page it will reload before you reach the bottom, Probably several times.

This should be simple. How to stop Firefox from website reload commands. Really simple would be put back the Netscape stop button.

I've researched this in the past and did a modify in about:config. But it really didn't work. I thought I'd try again.

Will try greasemonkey. I see there are others, too.

OK, I've successfully replicated it on a Healthline article. Can you please try the website/s on a new profile? To create one:

1. Visit about:profiles in Firefox.
2. Click the "Create a New Profile" button.
3. Click "Next", then assign a name. Be sure to ignore the option to relocate the profile folder.
4. Click "Finish"
5. After successfully creating the profile, scroll down to it and then click the "Launch profile in new browser" button.
6. Do NOT sync any accounts or activate any extensions.
7. Test the affected websites to see if the issues persist.

IMPORTANT: Creating a new profile may change your default. If your regular profile has a Set as Default Profile button after this test, click that to make sure your next startup doesn't yield a surprise.|

Made a new profile. Using Firefox for an hour+. I'd say it's better but doesn't completely solve the forced refresh problem. And the new profile doesn't have any addons. Like uBlock that makes Youtube watchable, and auto cookie delete that keeps crap I don't want off my PC. Not to mention a popup blocker. Why doesn't Firefox have a real popup blocker? Are they paid not to? In fact most of the addons I use could be a part of Firefox software and appreciated. I will try Greasemonkey, although I'm not literate in scripts.

You will have to search sites which host scripts for "disable autofresh". I have had to disable it on this and other forum sites.

Firefox is a user based non-profit they aren't like Edge or Chrome that has corporation backing for their Browser. Firefox is limited to what they can do and create putting more Addons that users themselves can choose is why Firefox is not Bloatware that and what users choose to customize is up to the user themselves to choose. As to disable autofresh you should do some homework here they gave you how and where to look to do this. Addons and what users choose isn't for Firefox to decide for the user here. Read or search online for Addon reviews to decide what you want to use.

Type "about:config" in the address bar. Click the "I accept the risk" button. Type "accessibility. blockautorefresh" in the search box. Double-click on the first item that appears to change the value to "true". Restart Firefox.

No, don't do that. If you do, you will repeatedly have to 'allow' Firefox to load various urls and it won't solve your issue.
