Email will not load to Thunderbird gives error every time

I can not get thunderbird to bring over email for 6 days now I get the following error everytime. (Sending of password for user [email protected] did not succeed. Mail server pop.verizon.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later.) I have tried creating a new password on the server account and restarting thunderbird with the new password . Did not help. Any Suggestions?

My error message says RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving message.Mail server pop.aol.com reported [SYS/TEMP] Server error.
