I am trying to install my email on my new Kindle. It is asking for a password and I don't remember ever having a password for Thunderbird. I didn't write a password down, either. It's been too long since I I installed Thunderbird. How can I find a password, change a password--just get a password for the Kindle installation?

Thunderbird is a desktop program called an email client and it cannot be installed on a Kindle. There is no such thing as a password to access Thunderbird.

However, to access emails that are stored on a server means you would need the email address and the password that is used to access the server.

This is the same email address and password that you would use to access your webmail account via a browser. Passwords can only be created, modified etc within the webmail account. Not in the Thunderbird program.

You mention using Thunderbird to access emails for an email address. If you are still doing this, then each time you start Thunderbird, it will use the stored password to access the server to either download emails or headers so you can access emails. You could start up thunderbird and then see if the passwords are stored.

In version 68* or earlier

  • Menu app icon > Options> Options> Security > 'Passwords' tab
  • Click on 'Saved Passwords' button
  • Click on 'Show Passwords' button

In version 78* or later

  • Menu app icon > Options > Privacy & Security
  • Scroll down to 'Passwords' section
  • Click on 'Saved Passwords' button
  • Click on 'Show Passwords' button

This may show you the password you are looking for.

Thanks so much. I did finally find the right password when I understood that it wasn't Thunderbird that I needed to search. Thank you again for setting me straight.
