Hi, when closing Firefox 63.0.3, it takes a few minutes to close and then the Bug Report pops up. I sent all reports. This also happens when running FF in safe mode. System File Check found no integrity violations.

My last five crash reports, one of them while running in safe mode: bp-bc6f7dc8-4316-4c6e-93b2-6ac440181202 bp-e64188af-abf2-487c-8c45-9e77f0181202 bp-651d90db-c43d-4635-95d8-1def00181202 bp-ddfa4676-afcc-4d7a-8323-1e0660181128 bp-046798d1-36d0-4002-b23f-8a3760181128

Thank you for the report IDs. All five have the crash signature

[@ AsyncShutdownTimeout | Places Clients shutdown | sanitize.js: Sanitize on shutdown ]

Usually, Sanitize on shutdown references the optional "Clear history when Firefox closes" feature, and Places references the database file that stores history and bookmarks. So if you have set Firefox to clear history when it closes, that might be where Firefox is running into trouble finishing the job before running out of time and being intentionally crashed.

Does that sound like something you might have set up? This article describes where that is on the Options page:

Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox -- "How do I make Firefox clear my history automatically?" section

Note: I'm not recommending it, just describing where it's set.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

When done, copy and post the results here.

Guys, thanks for the ultrafast replies! I did not set Firefox to clear my history automatically; maybe the opposite is the problem? Maybe my history is too long? Hello, any ideas on the above? I tried to delete some of my history, and when I try to delete a few hundred entries at once, an error message about a not-responding script appears, for instance: Skript: chrome://browser/content/places/treeView.js:1469

Here is an idea. If you don't care about losing your history;

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the places.sqlite file. Then rename it by adding .old to it. Restart Firefox.

This will cause the browser to recreate the file using bookmark backups.
