Confusion about 64bit version
I know there has been posts asking about if/when there will be a 64bit version and from the ones I read it seems to be not really available. However when looking in the following directory https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/60.0/ Under the appropriate language directory I see there is both a win32 and and a win64 directory. They each have discrete versions of Thunderbird Setup 60.0.exe.

So just curious why there are different files?
Thanks

The Win64 version of Tb 60.0 is not officially supported yet which is why it is not listed on say https://www.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/all/
64-bit version of Thunderbird has existed since Tb 5.0 for Mac and Linux as unlike for Windows, they were needed.
Oh Ok so this is a beta version then? The reason I was confused as I didn't see a "Win64" directory for any of the earlier versions of it, such as v45 or v52. I thought cool there is finally a 64bit version.
Thanks
No not Beta as that is a separate development channel.
I do not really follow Thunderbird development much but I did not think there was going to be Win64 for Thunderbird Release just yet.

See that is why I was confused. From the directory listing is seemed like it was a regular release, not beta or nightly or anything like that. At the same time I didn't see there was an "official" 64 bit release.
Thunderbird changed it's build process to move it into line with the Firefox process. A side effect is a 64bit build appearing in the release folders. However those FTP folders are not really meant to be used to download Thunderbird. That is what the release channel is about and the links from getthunderbird.com
There has been a daily built 64 bit version for a number of years, but no one has had the time to extensively test a 64 bit version for release. I am using the 64bit version someone has to be a guinea pig. There is little point on windows as a 32 bit version operates the same as a 64 bit version with less bugs so it is not a priority as it was for Linux and OSX. The last I heard was there was some suggestions that there would be a 64bit version in the next version release in about a year.
So this one sitting on the archive server is not really a released version but more of test version? (even if not really labeled as beta)? It seemed to have the same date stamp as the other one 8/6/18 so I guess I assumed it was a released version.
Thanks,
