can't change font size in display
Today, after a Microsoft update, I went into Thunderbird ( I have version 52.5.2) and found that I lost the Theme and Font Size changer and I could barely read the font in the display... I went into add on and removed the Theme and Font Size Changer and reinstalled, but it doesn't show up in my toolbar. How can I get it back so I can change the font size?
In the meantime, after reading a solution involving using a css file I went ahead and did that and changed the font to 14. That helps, but I'd like to be able to use the Theme and Font Size Changer...
Thanks!

Did you install the add-on?

Try this modified version of the add-on:
For my money, doing it via css file is cleaner and with lower overheads than the add-on.
Thanks Zenos - Iv'e downloaded version 62, but when I go to extensions and select and install it, it doesn't show up in my toolbar or tool menu - not sure where it is or how to find it.... Should I do something with the actual dowload - it's filed in my recent downloads...
I did follow the css method you recommend and changed it to 10pt Tahoma, so I guess I solved the problem, but I would like to get the Theme changer on my toolbar as an option...
Thanks!

I got it installed on the toolbar! I went into Add-on manger, extensions, clicked on the star button and selected Install Add-on from file; I then opened the file and it installed it...
Thanks again, as always for all the help!

Yeah I installed it too. It appears in the addon page, but there is no button, nothing in under Tools and nothing in any of the toolbars. Are you able to open the app and make changes. I cannot.
Yes - Theme and Font Size Changer is on my toolbar and I can make changes: What I had to do, though, was download version 62 of the changer, It downloaded to my Recent Downloads in my Windows Menu.... I then went into the Add-on Manager and clicked on the star wheel at the top and chose Install Add-on file; I then went to the download and selected it to open, and it stalled it on the toolbar... Here is the download link that Zenos gave me: https://www.dropbox.com/s/e2sc3gr4mogsi0h/theme_font_size_changer_for_thunderbird-62.0-sm%2Btb.xpi?dl=0
Thank you so much. That did it. I can finally see again! I had TF&SC, version 62, already installed in TB. But I downloaded the file from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/theme-font-size-changer/versions/.
Both sources said it was the same version but the one from Mozilla was broken. Tho' it installed and the extension appeared on the add on page, the TF&SC button never showed up in the toolbar or under Tools.
"The modified version will be identified in the Addons Manager as Theme Font & Size Changer (no expire) 53.0. "
No its not. No version in the AddOns menu index list. When I select MORE, its identified as 62.0 -- seems to be the info page for the "original" not the No Exp version.
The above is true for my OSX 10.11.6 machine running TB 52.5.2.
On my OSX 10.6.8 machine running TB 45.8.0, the AddOns menu index says "(no expire)" .
bobeau87: I'm glad you got it back..Something to think about: before I figured out how to install TFSC, I followed Zenos' advice and set up a css file in Thunderbird, then pasted in the code he provided. This method allows you to change the font size and style. He's right - it is a clean way to change the font size...I experimented with different sizes and styles and it works well. It's not that hard to set-up and I have it as a back-up if I lose TFSC again.
After installing TFSC, I found out that if I do use the code method to make changes, I first disable TFSC. Not sure if it's proper to have both at the same time, but so far things are OK...

FYI NOTE THIS PROBLEM WITH THE WEBSITE DOWNLOAD VERSION.:

I was unable to get the "No Expire" .xpi to load -- kept showing as "corrupt file." Then switched to Safari, downloaded it again and it loaded into T-bird 52.5.0 successfully.

That sounds like Firefox was trying to install it. You need to download it (using "save as") as an xpi file then install it into Thunderbird.
Safari doesn't know what xpi files are, so it won't attempt to do anything to or with them.

(I've stopped using Firefox. It just sort of stopped being useful or relevant. And the add-ons are dying and the replacements are clunky. I tend to forget about Firefox grabbing xpi files for itself since it has become a non-issue for myself.)

Reading through all of the above ... All this just to set the font size?!
Installed from Addons. I see it nowhere. Installed from file. I see it nowhere.
And then this:I followed Zenos' advice and set up a css file in Thunderbird, then pasted in the code he provided.I'm sure it's very nice of you to have 1 on 1, personal service. But talking about CSS that others do not access? I think that's just plain rude.
"Hey, did you try the CSS I sent you?" "Sure did! It worked great!" Hardly helpful.
So, more time wasted ... just to address font size in T'bird presentation.

The last one talks about Firefox, but you can substitute Thunderbird in its place for your email.
Right, thanks, will do. Nothing real great about getting older! ;-)
thanks
Ben, I'm sorry - I was only trying to help others with the font size...I used info that Zenos sent me to first set-up a css file in Thunderbird, then I pasted in the code that allows me to change the font size and style... Here is the link that explains how to set up a css file: https://www.userchrome.org/how-create-userchrome-css.html
And here is the code I pasted into the css file that allows me to make changes to the font size and style:
/*
* Do not remove the @namespace line -- it's required for correct functioning */
@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* set default namespace to XUL */
/* Make all the default font sizes 10 pt. */
- {
font-family: "Tahoma" !important; font-size: 10pt !important;
}
Note: there are 2 places where I changed the font size to 10 to meet my needs; and I chose Tahoma as my style. You can change those...
Hope this helps...
The dot should be an asterisk. That's this forum's software being "helpful".
/* Make all the default font sizes 10 pt. */
* { font-family: "Tahoma" !important; font-size: 10pt !important; }
