I am using the Beta version of Thunderbird and connecting to my Google calendar. This was working fine on 3 Windows systems all running Windows 10 (creators edition) an version 55 of Thunderbird. One of the systems started giving the following error:

An error was encountered preparing the calendar located at googleapi://[email protected]/?calendar=ian.arnold1948%40gmail.com for use. It will not be available.

Error code: 0x80570015

Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80570015 (NS_ERROR_XPC_CI_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.createInstance]" nsresult: "0x80570015 (NS_ERROR_XPC_CI_RETURNED_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: resource://calendar/modules/calUtils.jsm -> file:///I:/Thunderbird/Profiles/8yz5k31c.default/extensions/%7Be2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103%7D/calendar-js/calCalendarManager.js :: createCalendar :: line 446" data: no]

The other systems were working but have are now doing the same since they too have updated to version 56

I gave you a link to the appropriate version of Provider.

Why are you using beta versions?

Calendars are indeed broken in TB56.0b1 and have been repaired in TB56.0b2.

If nobody used Beta versions then the bugs wouldn't be discovered. I am using 56.0b2 and the problem still exists. I found something on-line that said version 57 fixed it. Does anyone have any information on that and how to get it. My system says Thunderbird is up to date.

If you're using Provider For Google Calendar you'll need to get a compatible version of that too. That's all part of the pain of running with a beta version. If you get too far ahead of formal releases your choice of add-ons can be very limited.

e.g. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/calendar/lightning/candidates/5.8b2-candidates/build1/win32/gdata-provider-3.7b2.en-US.win32.xpi

Thank you Zenos for your response. I am using version 3.3 of the Provider for Google Calendar which is only supposed to be used up to Thunderbird version 52. I can't find a provider for Thunderbird version 56. If I remove Thunderbird and then install a non-beta release, I assume I will lose my address books. Can I get over this by exporting them and re-importing them afterwards.?

Hi Zenos. I couldn't use the link to start with because Firefox refused to download it. Chrome did it and now all is well again. Thank you very much.

With Firefox, you need to make sure you download the file by chosing "save as", not "open" which will attempt to run the file.

Hi Wayne, Firefox didn't give me a chance to do either. It refused to go to the site. It said it wouldn't install un-verified add-ons. I tried turning off the option under the security tab but it didn't make any difference. I downloaded it via Chrome. Cheers, Ian

This clearly indicates the steps you used tried to install the Thunderbird addon (which are unsigned) into Firefox (which requires signed addons).

You should try right+click on the "download now" link

That would have been a whole lot easier !! Thank you
