display snippet of body of message when searching for messages in thunderbird
When I do a Search for Messages, I get a list in a special box. I can choose which fields to display. But to figure out which message in that big list is the one I'm looking for, I have to open a ton of individual messages. I'd like to be able to preview the beginning of the message when that message is highlighted. Or, I'd like to have a pane where I can scroll around the body of the message that's highlighted -- just like in the main Thunderbird window.
Is there an option or an Add-on that would let me do that?

that is how global search works. It displays the beginning of each email
I don't see any snippet of body text, only the subject. Am I doing something wrong? Here's what I see after doing shift-ctl-f and configuring my search:

Your not using global search. So, of course your not seeing the same thing.
perhaps you need to filter as you go using the global search and skip that remnant of Thunderbird 2.
Maybe I'm behind the times? Or maybe the problem is that I've turned off Thunderbird's "Global Search and Indexing"?
I do most of my searching in thunderbird with the Expression Search / GMailUI add-on, but sometimes "Search Messages" works better for a particular needle in the haystack. Is it possible to preview the messages (body) when searching that way?
