New browser, no pages open. No extensions. Encoding cannot be changed. What's wrong? Some pages are also with wrong encoding.

Hi baso4hno3, glad to see you on Mozilla Support Forum.

Is the same font used for all those characters?

You can right-click and select "Inspect Element" to open the Inspector (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) with this element selected. You can check the font used for selected text in the Font tab in the right pane of the Inspector.

https://developer.mozilla.org/Tools/Page_Inspector

hii

firstly you uninstall the browser,

and follow this step solve your problem

1. Visit this Firefox download page in any browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer.

2. Click the Download Now button. The Firefox Installer that downloads will automatically offer you the best available version of Firefox for your computer.

  • If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, a notification bar will appear at the bottom of the page with the options to run the installer or save the file to your computer. Click Run to start the process.
  • In other browsers, you may need to first save the Firefox installer to your computer, then open the file you downloaded.

Note: If you see an Open File - Security Warning dialog, click Open or Run.

  • The User Account Control dialog may open, to ask you to allow the Firefox Installer to make changes to your computer. If this dialog appears, click Yes to start the installation
  • Wait for Firefox to finish installing

Note: The Firefox Installer may contain an Update or Re-install button and an option to restore default settings and remove add-ons, if a very outdated Firefox version or very old profile data is detected. Clear the checkbox to keep the old data and click Update or Re-install to start the installation.

  • When the installation is complete, Firefox will open.

What Windows and Firefox version version do you use ?

The System Details list shows Windows 7 (6.1)

Firefox shows little boxes with the hex code of the character if you do not have a font installed that covers this Unicode range or this font is broken.

You need to install a font that covers these Unicode code points.
This is code in the 0400 Unicode block used by Cyrillic.
If this worked before then you may have a corrupted font.

You can right-click and select "Inspect Element" to open the builtin Inspector with this element selected.

You can check in the Rules tab in the right panel in the Inspector what font-family is used for selected text. You can check in the Font tab in the right panel in the Inspector what font is actually used because Firefox might be using a different font than specified by the website.

The font is Twemoji Mozilla, i don't know it. May be that's the problem. I've found and installed that font, now Mozilla pages instantly crashes. It cannot open start page. But empty browser is working.

Finally, You Found that.

Now, You can use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the about:config page and make sure it is set to true (if necessary double-click the line to toggle its value to true).

Hope it helps. Thank You.

Didn't really get it. Pref is already was true. After using hotkeys changed nothing, pages still crashing. May be i can try something else?

Info from crash log: Signature: gfxFontGroup::GetDefaultFont

MOZ_CRASH Reason (Sanitized): unable to find a usable font ()

UPD: i tried to delete incorrect font, pages now working but again with wrong encoding. Install that font and pages again crashing.

If a specific emoji font causes Firefox to crash then you shouldn't install this font.

What is your current default font as set in Options/Preferences ?

Is looks that you have a default font that can't handle Cyrillic text, so you need to set a different font as the default font.

My default font set as Times New Roman. I deinstall crashing Twemozilla Emoji font, it is returns to wrong encoding. I also tried set default fonts classic Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, but all of them change nothing. I tried to shut down checkbox "allow sites to use their own fonts", but no success. Maybe the matter is that I can't change encoding from Unicode to anothers? Who knows why it is disabled? Screenshot in attachment.

This is not an encoding issue, but a font issue.
