I haven't tried it myself, but does it make any difference if you enable recent mode on both computers with the POP account? Change the User Name in Account Settings, Server Settings, to recent:[email protected], and enable 'Leave messages on server'. I don't think the Email address in the right pane of Account Settings, when the account is selected in the left pane, needs to be changed.
Both clients have "recent:" prefix in login name string. Our small company has 5 users and they access one gmail mail box. Only one, who first reads the gmail box via pop3 can download letters. Other can't. No new emails for them. In google web interface i can see all letters as unread.
I've no idea why it doesn't work, but maybe it is caused by the authentication method. Is the method 'normal password' or OAuth2, which is supported for gmail POP since TB 68.5?
Related question: why use POP when IMAP would surely work for multiple users accessing the same account.
with gmail 'normal password' doesnt work, so we use 'OAuth2', imap is bad, because when one user read message than other users see this message as 'already read'. Or when someone delete the messge other see it in 'trash'. In our case each user must have own copy of entire mail box.
i have installed 75.0a1 (2020-03-06) (64) No effect. Only first user who has read the mail box via pop3 protocol has new messages. Other users - nothing. Another mail client 'Evolution' for linux works perfect
Solved. Thunderbird has a bug with pop3 OAuth2 authentication
I anabled on web gmail interface "security->access for applications" and after that thunderbird can authenticate with "normal password".
I chosen in thunderbird server srttings->authentication method->normal password
Now multiple users can read eMails from one gmail account
I have seen reports that a gmail POP account doesn't work with OAuth2 authentication unless the 'allow less-secure apps' switch in the Google account security settings is ON. This has always been the case with 'normal password' authentication, POP or IMAP, but with OAuth2 on IMAP accounts, it isn't necessary. Google may switch the setting to OFF automatically, so that is worth remembering if POP access stops.
