Since the latest update Cookies & site data no longer clear when I close FF. I have checked the settings which are correct but I have to go to options & clear manually all the time. This function used to work the problem is only since the last update. Can this be corrected please?

Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

Are you talking about cookies, cache, or both?

Cookies If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Cookies

Close Firefox. Open your file browser to the above, and remove the folder.

Hello Fred McD, Thanks for helping, the problem is with both cookies & cache. I can delete manually but it used to do this automatically when I close FF & no longer does. I will try to follow your instructions & report back. The Graphics drivers are up to date. I'll uninstall Flash Player, I don't use Internet Explorer only FF. Do I need to reinstall a new Flash player please?

Followed instructions, for both cookies & cache, then closed down & restarted, browsed a little, 300mb in cache, closed FF, open FF, still same MB in cache & cookies still the same? What next to try please?

While many websites now use the HTML5 player built into Firefox, there are still many sites that still use Flash.

Open them up. Is the data still there or is it cleared?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Did you ever used this profile folder with a more recent Firefox 57+ version?

If that is the case then the profile might be broken.

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Created a new profile, made it default profile, browsed a bit, checked cookies & cache dat nos. Closed FF. Opened FF... has not cleared cookies & cache. Closed FF. Went to profiles again, made original profile default again, deleted the new profile. Closed FF. Whatever the problem it only started with the last update. Can it be a bug in that update?
