How do I remove "Search Amazon.com for . . ." from the context menu?

Every time I highlight a word on a web page and then "right click" on it, a context menu opens with a list. The one I care about is the entry: "Search Google for". The only problem is, instead of Google, it states "Search Amazon.com for" to do a search. This is annoying and I have no clue how the change happened. Amazon is not a search engine.

So, how would I go about changing it back to Google?

Check the browser.search.defaultenginename pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to the default value Google.

  • browser.search.defaultenginename

You can also check the pref that sets currently selected search engine:

  • browser.search.selectedEngine

I checked those settings and they have no values whatsoever. What else can I do?

Which search engine is selected in the Search Bar?

That context menu item "Search ***** for ..." is tied to the search engine which is selected in the Search Bar. If Amazon is selected in the Search Bar, that context menu item will say Search Amazon for ....

New feature for Firefox 21.

I didn't know that. Good information and something to look out for in the future. Thanks again.
