In previous versions of FF I was able to highlight a word or words and then right click, the context menu had a "Search the internet using these words" option. Which made searching so much easier. How do I get that back and get rid of that monster right click menu?

TIA

I had same problem, i think it appeared with version Firefox 20.0 This is how my right click menu looked like http://prntscr.com/z0k15 Half of the links on it didnt work. Reinstalling firefox didnt help.

Problem was caused by Addon FIREBUG 1.10.6. Problem is fixed if I disable and re enable firebug. I hope newre version of firebug will fix problem.

EDIT: FIREBUG 1.11.2 fixed problem. Looks like firebug isnt updating autoamticly, you have to delete old addon and reinstall new version.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Problem with reseting FF is that every thing I customized goes away as well. This was like this from the start. There's got to be a way of changing this.

Resetting makes your Firefox as anew browser with default settings

more options

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

It may help if you explain what you mean by huge, and what the options are that you see on right click.

If you have a lot of customisations to Firefox and your OS you will probably expect to see a larger than usual number of options on right click.

Or are you reporting that the text or the options dialogue box itself is too big ?

It used to be a simple context menu. Now it has 50 different options to choose from.

This started when I downloaded the new version of FF. It has nothing to do with the extentions or addons.

I want the old right click menu back. It was so much better.

Same problem fixed by removing Firebug (disabling Firebug was not sufficient to fix the issue). My r-click menu was nearly identical to http://prntscr.com/z0k15 as posted by aljazperc. The menu went from <20 items to >50.

The greatest issues for me being that menu items didn't work (e.g. clicking 'open link in new tab' results in no action) and that the newly massive r-click menu didn't fit to one screen and thus required scrolling on my 12" laptop.

Thanks to mainkns1 for posting the issue. Big thanks to aljazperc for the fix.

The same problem - SOLVED.

  • To update Firebug (1.10 => 1.11.2) didn't work, to disable it neither.
  • I had to switch on instaled but disabled SQLite Manager 0.7.7

If you disable the Firebug extension, close FF, then reopen the expanded right-click menu is back to normal.

For me, simply removing and reinstalling Firebug did not fix the issue because Firebug no longer requires a restart. I had to remove the plugin, quit the browser, restart the browser, then reinstall the Firebug.

I'm on Windows 7, Firefox 20, Firebug 1.11.3

IMPORTANT EXTRA NOTE: All of what is said above ended up helping me EVEN THOUGH I did not have Firebug in my browser. I MIGHT have had it at one point, but removed it. However, it was the cause of this problem.

I INSTALLED Firebug and then REMOVED IT and the problem was fixed!!!
