How can I go directly to a web sites without initiating a search?
I used to love Firefox but I can no longer just type in a website address and go directly. Instead, Firefox defaults to a search engine and I have to go through choices to get to the website. For that reason alone, I changed to Google Chrome but I'd rather use Firefox. How about reinstating the address bar?

about:config set keyword.enabled to false will disable searching from the address bar though.
Thank you for your reply but I don't understand where to go to configure it. Can you explain more clearly for someone who is not a techie although very proficient in using computers and internet? I just want to be able to type in an address and get there without going through a search.

In the address bar type about:config and press enter.
Click OK to the warning.
In the search bar (that in the page) type keyword.enabled
It should popup beneath the search bar.
Double click on it until it says false.
Now when you type test and press enter in the address bar it should take you to test.com

When I typed "config" on the address bar, it did its usual search with links to lots of websites rather than a setting. Tomorrow I'm going to ask one of my friends to help me figure it out and follow your directions if we can ever get to the true address bar. I'll let you know if it works. Thanks for your help...
