Thunderbird 102.0.3 trouble receiving emails from my Ionos.com mail account
It is 5:46am Sunday morning here in Southern California and again after 3 days of calling Ionos I am not receiving emails sent to me using Thunderbird 102.0.3 especially Spam emails I would like to block and mail in sub folders having saved emails. And this morning I cannot send emails from my TB account. This has been going on for a few days. Back a few days ago I would receive junk/spam mail and add those emails to block list using TB. Now those emails stay in Ionos site mail account and are not forwarded to my TB account. I cannot send emails from my Ionos site when using TB. Why is this a happening and how to fix it. Thanks

It is 8:50pm Sunday night. It appears Thunderbird is going backward. Current version is now showing 102.1.0 and it use to be 102.0.3 see attachment And why when I click on attachment I cannot go back to this page? What is going on with Thunderbird not syncing with more folder in my Ionos.com version of TB???????????????
Monday morning 8/1/2022. I changed Thunderbird password on my Windows 10 and changed it to same password on my Android. I can see all my Thunderbird emails on my Android meaning all folders but not on my Windows 10. I can send an email to myself and it arrives on my Android and Windows 10 laptop Thunderbird account. Problem is I cannot send an email from Thunderbird on my laptop and Thunderbird does not sync with emails on my Android or my Ionos.com Thunderbird account. Why?
Below is what I see trying to send a message from Thunderbird on my WIndows 10. Why?
C://Program Files (x86)/Mozilla Thunderbird/thunderbird.exe
is (x86) above version of Thunderbird you use?
Toad-Hill see below from another supporter.
Base on what I have read, it seems that particular something is blocking the messages from being received on your Thunderbird which is the cause of the issue. It could be your Firewall, anti virus or a local setting on the back end which could be a lot of possibilities. I am not that savvy enough to deal with computer issues or sync up your email on your Thunderbird. My best advise is to contact an IT guy who could help you check on the issue further provided with the details on setting up the email on your Thunderbird. I have noticed that he was referring to instruction base on an article from UK Market which is different. See below for below email for the correct instructions instead.
https://www.ionos.com/help/email/other-email-programs/add-a-mail-basic-email-account-to-mozilla-thunderbird/ Please can you fix this.
I also received below.

You have had an update. That's why it has incremented. That's how numbers work. 102.0.3 is less than 102. 1.0

Monday morning 8/1/2022. I changed Thunderbird password on my Windows 10 and changed it to same password on my Android.
Please state full process of what you did... I assume you did this: logged onto the ionos webmail account and modified your password. accessed Thunderbird Menu icon > Settings > Privacy & Security clicked on 'Saved Passwords' clicked on 'Show Passwords Right clicked on imap://line and select 'Edit Password' completely removed the old passwords and retyped the new password. Did the same with the smtp:// line and clicked on Done. then restarted Thunderbird.
did you do the above ?
I can see all my Thunderbird emails on my Android meaning all folders but not on my Windows 10.
No that makes no sense.
What you mean is this: You see the ionos server email address account emails on your android phone. But are you saying you do not see all the folders whcihare displayed on server in your Thunderbird ionos mail account.
I can send an email to myself and it arrives on my Android and Windows 10 laptop Thunderbird account.
Send an email by what method - Are you logged onto the ionos webmail account via a browser on your pc or are you sending an email using the imap account your phone ?
So you are seeing copies of emails you send. They are appearing in the server 'Sent' folder and also in the Thunderbird imap account 'sent' folder. Problem is I cannot send an email from Thunderbird on my laptop and Thunderbird does not sync with emails on my Android or my Ionos.com Thunderbird account. Why?
Thunderbird does not sink with Andriod. It is only designed to synch with server. The Andriod only synces with server. The Andriod is irrelevant providing it is set up as an imap account.
Confirm : Is the Andriod account set up as an imap account? If it is not set up as imap then it is pop in which case it could be removing emails off the server.
Just to refine the issue.
at this point : you can get all the incoming mail, all emails sent by you via webmail or Andriod also display in the 'Sent' folder.
Problem you have is sending email using Thunderbird ionos imap account.
Other problem is that you do not see all the server folders in your imap ionos account.
Right click on ionos imap account name in folder Pane and select 'Subscribe'
click on 'Refresh' button
Select all folders you want to see and click on 'Subscribe'
click on OK
Does the list contain all the folders you want to see?
Please confirm you have the following:
Right click on ionos imap account name in folder Pane and select 'SEttings'
Select 'Server Settings' for account
Please confirm you have these settings - you can post an image if it easier than typing.
Server SEttings: Select : 'Check for new messages at startup' Select 'check for new messages every 15 minutes' Select 'Allow immediate server notifications when new message arrives' click on 'Advanced' button select checkbox 'Show on subscribed folders' click on 'OK;'
Click on 'Synchronise & Storage' Click on 'Advanced,,' button Make sure all checkboxes are selected. Are all the folders shown in that list? click on Ok
How any mail accounts have you got in Thunderbird ?
What anti-Virus are you using?
Temporary Action: Suggest you switch off the phone to stop it from accessing the server ionos account. This will remove the cached connections that the phone is using. It may take a few moment for the server to catch up. But it will mean they are available for Thunderbird ionos imap account.
I assume from other question that all folders except from Trash are displaying in Folder Pane. It's not clear that you have subscribed to see all folders. That includes the 'Trash' folder.
Did you check all of settings in my last comment in this question.? Q: Was 'Trash' in the Subscribe list ? If yes, check - select it and click on 'Subscribe', click on OK.
I have 8 spam messages sitting in my spam folder going to Thunderbird on Ionos. How do I move all to spam and any new ones to Spam folder using Thunderbird on Windows 10?
Check all folders are actually using the ionos server folders.
- Right click on ionos imap account name in folder Pane and select 'Settings'
- Select 'Copies & Folders'
- For each of the settings - select 'Other' and choose the relevant folder on imap account'
- Select 'Junk Settings'
- Select 'Move new junk messages to'
- Select 'Other' and choose 'Spam on ionos imap account'
This will allow all spam emails in server Spam folder to synch with correct 'Spam' folder. then if desired - move emails from 'Junk' into 'Spam'.
- Select 'Server Settings'
- When I delete a message:
- select 'Move it to this folder: Choose the Trash folder on ionos mail account.'
Then exit Thunderbird - wait a few moments and restart Thunderbird.

Toad-Hall, I have some news for you should have known about before all your replies. There is reason why I am having problems with Ionos.com and Thunderbird 102.1 As of 9th of August 2022 no more Thunderbird with Ionos. If I want an email provider it has to be Outlook.com or perhaps some other provider but definitely not Thunderbird. Add to above an Ionos.com exchange fee per month or year to use Outlook.com in an upgraded basic to business account with Ionos.com. And something else, there is a yearly or monthly fee to use Outlook.com Total could be $150.00 a year. I have my domains with Ionos.com have you a suggestion who might transfer them and use Thunderbird 102. If I am saying something wrong here let me know. What I do know is I like Thunderbird a lot more than I do using more than I need in Outlook. Thanks.
Toad-Hill, I called Ionos.com once again and it was suggested I delete my email account again with Ionos.com and then reinstall it. I deleted account on my Windows 10 using Ionos.com and closed site then reopened it and created a new folder using same email. I see all folders in my Ionos.com site except more than a few are empty. I go to each sub folder and click on both buttons making them blue and do a repair and what do you know. All those empty folders have emails in them. Amazing. I delete trash, clean up to spam mail and copy before and after. It is 7:50pm. Person who suggested I do what I did said see if what I did disappears tomorrow morning. Sounds like a plan. I will let you know. And was told if if those folders empty out tomorrow morning whose fault is it Ionos.com or Thunderbird 102 Thanks.

Not true. If you have to move over to exchange then you will need to use an addon for a very very small annual fee. See more info below.

I'm assuming ionos has decided to use Microsoft exchange and they are refusing to allow the old imap and smtp protocols - basically ionos are going to switch off pop, imap and smtp. They are correct in that Outlook (being owned by Microsoft) has the auto ability to use exchange, but you would need a licence to use Outlook.
They are completely wrong in suggesting you cannot use Thunderbird. Sounds like ionos are plugging a deal with Microsoft, so Microsoft get more income from 'Outlook' licences.
If that is what ionos are saying and you have to upgraded basic to business account then you can still use Thunderbird, but need to use an addon. There is a really good addon called 'Owl for Exchange'. It is an addon you can trial for a month and then you need to pay to use it because the author of the addon does do a lot of work to maintain it. But, it is a small annual fee and I mean small.

This is the actual website - loads of info.
This may be worth a read as well.

Toad-Hall It is 5:41am here in San Diego County. I logged into all my emails and they show in folders including new spam mail and other folders. Totally Amazing. Very Happy. The 9th of August is coming up next Tuesday lets see if Ionos.com rejects my using Thunderbird by cutting off my email either because it does not have TLS 1.2 or whatever. In mean time it works. Thanks for sending me previous reply I might need it. Have a good Day.
Toad-Hall When I send an email I see my email address and in front of it I see my first and last name. Not so sure I want my first and last name to show to strangers I reply to in an email. Is showing my name to verify who I am using my email address or can I change what shows as my first and last name to just my first name or something else? Thanks

In 'Account Settings' for the account name: 'Default Identity' section It says: Your Name: Whatever is written here will appear as the 'display name' part when you compose email Email Address: email address of the account

re :5:41am here in San Diego County
You're up early :) It's currently 4:42 PM in Devon, England, UK, so about 8:42 AM in San Diego, California
Ionos info: https://www.ionos.co.uk/help/email/ssl-encryption-for-email/enabling-encryption-ssltls-in-an-email-program/ quote Please Note If you are using a different email program, we recommend that you check with the manufacturer to see if that program supports TLS 1.2 or newer. If the email program you are using does not support TLS 1.2 and newer, you will not be able to use it to connect to the email server to send and receive messages after TLS 1.0/1.1 and unencrypted IMAP/POP3/SMTP connections are disabled. unquote
It's actually a relief to hear that ionos are catching up and moving to use a more secure tls.
In Thunderbird these are the default settings: This means TLS 1.2 is the minimum required encryption protocol
- security.tls.version.min - Value = 3
This means TLS 1.3 is the maximum supported encryption protocol. (In version 102* - This is the current default for the maximum supported version.)
- security.tls.version.max - Value = 4
If you are using the following then you will be ok because that is a secure connection.
incoming:
- server name : imap.ionos.com
- port: 993
- Connection SEcurity: SSL/TLS
- Authentication Method: Normal Password
- smtp server : smtp.ionos.com
- Port : 465
- Connection SEcurity: SSL/TLS
- Authentication Method: Normal Password
