Yesterday afternoon, out of the blue, my Thunderbird required a password but wouldn't acknowledge the password I had in my book. I called Cox who is our server and they actually reset the password to what I had had and it still didn't work. What is going on? I have used Thunderbird and Cox for several years and have never had to put in my user name and password before. Help?? Whose problem is this--Cox or Thunderbird?

If you go directly to the Cox web mail site does the password work there? If so you know you have a working password.

From the menu bar in Thunderbird select:

Tools-Options-Security-Passwords-Saved Passwords

Click the button to show passwords. Is the password shown correctly there? If not remove it and close Thunderbird. When you open Thunderbird the next time you will be asked for a password. Enter the correct password.

No menu bar with Tools showing? Press the alt key.

Incorrect server settings can also cause the password error. You should get a current list of server settings from Cox and compare those with what you have set in Thunderbird and make any needed corrections.
