Tried to update flash via FF. It took me to abobe's page where nothing happens when I click install. Everything on the page is an advertisement for adobe cloud. :-( So I uninstalled flash, adobe acrobat and shockwave (all needed updates according to FF). I still couldn't download flash using FF (it's NOT on the FF plugin list!!!), so I tried IE & it downloaded all three easily & effortlessly. Of the three FF now recognizes acrobat & shockwave but refuses to acknowledge that I have flash on my computer (Win 7 - everything is updated & I use MSSE). I even reverted (using system restore) back to an earlier version of FF and that didn't help. And every time I closed out FF in 25 it would crash!

So I uninstalled FF completely and downloaded v 25 with the same results!

Left page up & got an automated popup asking if I wanted to download flash. I tried it and it said it failed & asked if I wanted to try manually. That just takes me back to the adobe page w/the cloud crap & the install link is useless.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I would recommend trying the following:

  1. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
    • This will keep many of your preferences
    • You will have to reinstall your extensions (AdBlock Plus, etc)
  2. Attempt the Flash install again: Install the Flash plugin to view videos, animations and games

If this doesn't work, start fresh with a clean install of Firefox. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Please report back to see if this helped you!

Thank you.

CallyCat, I don't use DoNotTrackMe/DNTM, but when web sites misbehave, turning off blockers is always worth trying. Alternatively, and perhaps safer, is just keep a different browser around as a second choice to try when your primary doesn't work. Sounds like you have that so you're good.

Thank you, rzulch. If it happens again, I'll try your suggestion, just to see if that was the culprit. Then I'll turn the blockers back on. '-)

Before I read rzulch's reply, I noticed that Ghostery was blocking Omniture (http://www.ghostery.com/apps/omniture_%28adobe_analytics%29) on the Flash installation page. When I unblocked Omniture, the installer refreshed to show a McAfee installation option, and I was able to continue with the download/installation.

Just figured I would thank rzulch for sharing and confirm that this solution worked for me too.

Also, CallyCat, I went ahead and installed DoNotTrackMe myself. DoNotTrackMe does show Omniture as "Allowed (Suggested)" in its list of blocked/allowed pages for the same Adobe download page. So you might want to check your own DoNotTrackMe settings for Omniture.

Good luck, and thanks for pointing me toward DoNotTrackMe!

I had the exact same problem. Resetting Firefox fixed it and I downloaded updates from the Adobe site (Flash, Reader). But then I discovered that I couldn't...after resetting Ghostery. After fiddling with this extension I realized that if you block one of the Adobe trackers (the one that allows the McAfee download to be present) then you can't download the Adobe updates! Go figure...

rzulch, Thank you for your solution, re: Ghostery. I've been having the same problem for ages, just assumed it was Adobe.

CallyCat, If you are still reading this thread, can you promote rzulch's solution (there should be a button under it). I know you weren't using Ghostery, but by putting this solution up near the top of the thread will make it easier for the rest of us searching for solutions to this specific problem via Google.
