Using the forward/back mouse buttons keeps bringing up 'quick find' rather than just navigating. How can I keep 'Ctrl-F' from being activated this way?
Whenever I use the thumb buttons of my Logitech Mouse to navigate, the Back and Forward function seem to also trigger the Quick Find function (which usually comes up with 'Ctrl-F'). Then while in this function rather presses of the Forward/Back thumb buttons on the mouse appear as diamond and spade characters.
It's kind of irksome because there will always be an annoying 'ding' (the Find function not finding the diamond or spade character) and this will sometimes prevent me from navigating this way (which seems timing-related).
Is there any way I could disassociate my Forward/Back mouse buttons with Firefox's Quick Find functionality?

Make sure that you've set the action of the Back and Forward button to Alt+Left and Alt+Right in the setup software (mouse driver) of your Logitech mouse.

That nailed it!
My Mouse is a Logitech Mx Performance. I went into its 'SetPoint Settings' (going into 'Mouse' from the Control Panel) and first added Firefox.exe to its program list to which it applies mouse preferences. Then, with Firefox selected as the program, I clicked on the buttons I wanted to configure.
The Forward button was at 'forward', but I instead clicked on 'Key Assignment' and in the field presented inputed 'Alt-Right'. Also did the equivalent for the Back button.
When I applied and switched back to Firefox, using the Mouse Forward/Back buttons functioned properly! Also, I stopped seeing diamond and spade characters appear in text fields when I clicked the same thumb buttons.
So, my problem is solved. Thank you for having pointed me the right way. :)
