I'm trying to link an existing email address to Thunderbird. I've listed the email address & its password but I'm getting a message that Thunderbird failed to find the settings for my Supanet email account. I've contacted Supanet to get the POP / IMAC details but if I try to set up manually I then get the message that my password isn't recognised. I can still access my Supanet emails using that password though. Supanet can't help me anymore.

Supanet - I'm only finding a few references on this and it's not exactly secure settings. So when creating the mail account - New > Existing Mail Account Enter name, email address and password Select to remember password click on 'OK' then use the 'Configure Manually' button

Note: username is usually the full email address.

Supanet Incoming Mail Server (POP3) pop.supanet.com port 110 Connection Security: None Authentication Method: Password transmitted insecurely

Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.supanet.com Port :25 Connection Security: None Authentication Method: Password transmitted insecurely

However, I would try for smtp to use: Port: 587 Connection Security: STARTTLS Authentication Method: Normal Password

Have you thought of getting all emails directed from supernet server to a gmail account and then creating a gmail account in Thunderbird? I might be safer.

Excellent that seems to have worked and a deluge of emails have now appeared. Excuse my ignorance but how would I be able to get the emails directed from my Supanet email account to a gmail account & then create this in Thunderbird ?

You would first need a gmail account/email address eg: yourname @gmail.com Your supernet account already provides pop so that is good. However gmail says ...Important: If your other email account doesn’t support secure connections, you won’t be able to connect. So, it is possible this may not work, but it is worth a try.

In the new gmail account : set up Mail Fetcher to check email from supernet account, click the “Settings” gear button and select “See all Settings” from the drop-down menu. Click the “Accounts and Import” link at the top of the “Settings” screen.

If this works then emails will get popped over to the gmail account, so please use the 'Learn More' to make sure all settings are set up correctly in both gmail and the supernet webmail account.

Import Mail and Contacts. Import from Yahoo!, Hotmail, AOL, or other webmail or POP3 accounts. Click on link and follow instructions.

If you get emails imported from supernet, then you would need to set up a gmail account in Thunderbird

You may find it rather handy to have a gmail account because it is not reliant on your internet provider. It also gives you another email address.
