I am helping a client switch their email platform from outlook (exchange account through GoDaddy) to google workspace (exchange account through squarespace). They currently use Thunderbird to manage their emails. Their email address will remain the same. What do I have to do to ensure that they will not lose their old emails from their outlook account?

If the account is POP, nothing. If the account is IMAP you need to get the emails archived and restored to the gmail account. For smallish numbers this addon is adequate. https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools-ng/?src=ss

Now the hundreds of thousands of email common in folks imap accounts these days you need some business mail migration tools from Microsoft or Google to facilitate the migration of mail.
