Firefox is still holding on to an expired SSL cert that will not be renewed, and will not display a website over it.

I have a domain for which I let the SSL expire, as I wanted to use a new SSL provider. Firefox apparently is holding onto the old cert (or something). I.e. when I go to the domain I get a security warning saying the old cert is no longer trusted/valid/whatever. I have searched for how to delete it, deleted it, and it still happens. Can anyone help?

You can check the Authorities tab and possibly the Servers tab in the Certificate Manager to see if you can locate this certificate.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Certificates: View Certificates

Thanks for reading and for your response, but I did that to no avail. This is ridiculous and absurd. What else can I do here?

Try to rename the cert9.db file (cert9OLD.db) and remove the previously used cert8.db file in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to remove intermediate certificates and exceptions that Firefox has cached.

If this has helped to solve the problem then you can remove the renamed cert9OLD.db file. Otherwise you can undo the rename and restore cert9.db.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
