disable browsing disk drives from within Firefox
I want to restrict users to browse to the C drive (file:///c:/) from the address bar. Other web browsing needs to be possible. I've found many answers to this question but none of them worked for the latest Firefox version 39.0 This was for example one of the solutions I've found: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/964760 I've also tried locking it down with add-ons for example PublicFox, but also with this add-on browsing to local disk can be bypassed.
Thanks

You won't find any easy solution…
If you have strong computer skills and a professional version of Windows 7 (Pro or Enterprise), you could maybe try with the Local Group Policy Editor.
Documentation on Microsoft TechNet website here.
Maybe your only option is to run Firefox in a protected sandbox environment that doesn't allow access to the C drive.

I already tried with different GPO settings such as 'Prevent access to drives from My Computer' but this does not disable the functionaltiy to browse to c drive directly from address bar

It is running in a sandbox environment but to allow print redirection and such some directories are not fully sandboxed so this is also not an option
Which kind of software do you use for sandbox? With VirtualBox (example), the virtual machine has no access by default to the directories of the computer.

It' s thinapped with writecopy isolation mode. It is possible to fully isolate it but then users won't have the availability to print.
