After New Compter, New Install Seeing Two Inboxes in Thunderbird 68.9 Windows10

I'm currently using Thunderbird 68.9 under Windows 10

I've been using Thunderbird under windows for many years. After getting a new computer recently and migrating my old messages to the new machine I'm noticing something odd.

Previously Thunderbird would check for email messages on my ISP's mail server, and download those messages to my inbox. I have a number of filters defined that move new emails into sub-folders. These would run automatically every time new mail arrived.

Now I am seeing two inboxes. One inbox contains my old emails and the sub-folders and filters I've accumulated over the years. The second inbox with its own sub-folders appears to be my data on my ISP's mail server. It seems I have to manually copy the new emails to the "heritage" inbox and manually highlight the new new messages and manually run the filters I've defined.

Can some explain what has happened here? It would be nice to go back to way things were set up before.

I'm not sure what version I was using on the old computer but it I'm sure it was a fairly recent version. I know I would periodically be prompted to allow Thunderbird to update.

Thank you.

Now I am seeing two inboxes.

I'm not sure sure what exactly this means. Can you post a screenshot?

Also, please post your Troubleshooting Information.
At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information.

In the image I attached you can see one inbox near the top of the image with 81 unread messages. This is what I'm calling the "new" inbox which seems to be emails and folders on on my ISP's mail server. New mail arrives here.

Lower in the image you will see a see a second inbox with 30, 679 unread message (yes, I'm a little behind :) ) I'm calling this my "heritage" inbox which contains emails, folders, and filters I've accumulated from previous computers and Thunderbird installations.

Thunderbird appears to be treating these as unrelated accounts. Again incoming mail never reaches my "heritage" inbox without manual intervention.

I had intended to add these comments to my previous message but the size of the data dump pushed me over the 10,000 character limit and it seems I am only able to attach graphics files note text files.

Once more, thank you for responding and so promptly, to my question.

I have removed the odd Inbox by right clicking, choosing settings, account actions, Remove Account. But I am still not able to receive mail in the "Heritage Inbox"

Here is support question by someone who had the same issue as me. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1028565

I am not able to reproduce the steps taken to solve the issue since this request was some years ago and the Thunderbird interface is too different. The items available on menus and forms have changed since then.

I'm noticing my "Heritage Inbox" displays the following text from View settings for this account: "The following is a special account. There are no identities associated with it"

If under account settings I click Set up an account/Email this will again create a second inbox that has no interaction with my "Heritage Inbox"

I'm hoping someone can tell me how to convert my "special account", "Heritage Inbox" to my default inbox.

As per your Troubleshooting Information that appears to be an IMAP account.

There is no other account set up in your Thunderbird installation than the Local Folders account. I'm guessing that someone renamed 'Local Folders to 'Brian R. Russel', for whatever reason. The latter account name is visible in your screenshot.
Local Folders is just as the name suggests - local.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Local_Folders

How all the messages and folders got there, and why - you tell me.

I'm hoping someone can tell me how to convert my "special account", "Heritage Inbox" to my default inbox.

You can't.
How you got there in the first place, I have no idea. Presumably it's related to migrating your old messages to the new machine.

It would be nice to go back to way things were set up before.

I'm not sure what exactly that means, and what you're trying to achieve. You do seem to have a working IMAP account though.

This may not have been a smart move. It sounds like you deleted your working IMAP account.
You won't get any new mail in your "Heritage Inbox" as this is the Local Folders account.

I'm hoping someone can tell me how to convert my "special account", "Heritage Inbox" to my default inbox.

You can try to create your account as POP, and set it up for Global Inbox.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Global_Inbox

Presumably this is the kind of setup you had before.

It is highly recommended to create a full Thunderbird profile backup before doing this. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile
