permanently sort all folders, newest emails at top, always never changes
how do i permanently sort all folders to show newest emails at top and opens with showing newest email. i want to set this up and never have to click on anything again. i need this to be my default setting. currently when i open thunderbird it has the most recent email at the bottom and shows a random place in the middle of the list. i know that i can click on the date column which will sort it the way i want but it gets under my skin having to do that every time i open the program or change folders. i use the program for personal and business and filter emails into dozens of different folders. resorting each folder everything i go in is getting to be a deal breaker.
thank you

Thunderbird opens just like you closed it by default. If those settings are changing it is because some software you have is changing the session.json file. CCleaner is one example of that type of software. You need to create an exemption in that software for Thunderbird.
I installed thunderbird 3 days ago. the only other program i run on a regular basis is firefox and microsoft security essentials. periodically i also run advanced system care and or malwarebytes. neither of those have run since installing thunderbird.
i currently have three email address that are used on a regular biases. a gmail account that is used for work related stuff, a yahoo account that is used for personal and a very old hotmail account that is used as a spam depository. all of them show the brand spanking new email that just arrived at the top of the list by default.
i found message online about using config editor to change the default setting but those only apply to folders created after the change.
i've been using firefox for years and always talk it up. i can't believe that mozilla makes you edit the config file to do something as simple as a basic setting. i am sorry but that is total BS.

thank you for the response. it is not very helpful but i do appreciate the assistance.
Facts are facts so good luck.
true enough, i wish it was different, and thank you for your help. i'll probably just go with outlook, i hate giving MS more money but they are the only ones i know of that makes a email client that allows you to adjust basic settings on permanent basis. if thunderbird allowed me to make that adjustment easily i would gladly pay for license.
Like I said Thunderbird opens just like you close it. If that is not working for you it is not Thunderbirds problem.
It does'ent really answer my question sort by date latest on top.
Tontoe0 it is not your thread or question so maybe that is the issue.
To sort by date click on the column header labeled DATE. Click DATE a second time to reverse the sort.
Very touchy on this site 'not my thread or question' I'me new here trying to find my way around, I have solved my problem latest on top by going to view and making changes there. Thanks everybody for the help but I am ok for now.
