My computer crashed and an Apple techie recovered as much as she could and installed Thunderbird 38.5.1. Now, when a new email appears in the Inbox, after one second, IT DISAPPEARS!!!. Also, older messages in the Inbox that I want to keep have DISAPPEARED!!! I am not much of a techie myself, so, if you have a solution, please spell out the step-by-step process in detail, assuming that I know nothing. HELP!!!

View menu and check the messages entry is set to all. View menu and check threads is set to all

I'm sorry but I am such a NON-techie that I need complete sentences to understand what you wrote. But I guessed a little bit at what you were trying to say. Within Thunderbird I clicked on VIEW at the top and "messages entry" didn't appear. But "threads" did and "All" was checked there. Can you explain your answer so that I can understand it? Thanks!

message should be immediately above threads on the View menu.

message is NOT immediately above threads on the View menu. "Sort by" is there instead. And, within that, "date" "Descending" and "unthreaded" are checked. I have Thunderbird 38.5.1 and I'm running it on a 10.10. 5 OS. if that info helps. Thanks for trying to help with this.
