Importing Bookmarks from old version of Firefox.
A couple of weeks ago, Firefox kept crashing. Finally, on a Monday when I went to log onto the internet, Firefox wouldn't open and a window popped up telling me that I'd have to either open Firefox in "safe" mode which would strip out all my bookmarks and cookies or "refresh". I selected refresh, and it extracted all my bookmarks and cookies and saved them in two files on my desktop. Firefox still wouldn't open and I wound up having to download the new version. The new version doesn't see my old bookmarks. I've tried importing the files, copy and pasting and nothing works. How do I import my old bookmarks. This is critcal. I have several hundred work-related bookmarks and need these restored. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

When you reset/refresh Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop to an "Old Firefox Data" folder. Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.
It is possible to recover data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
You can restore the bookmarks from the bookmarkbackups folder in the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem. You can transfer files from a previously used profile to the current profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
