Checked Plugins to update and was sent to Java's site. I uninstalled old ver (7.51 I believe) then downloaded 7.55. was also having problems with last version; slow loading of pages or "Server down" message when it wasn't. After installing 7.55 could not connect using Firefox. Had Windows uninstall and then was able to connect...but now no Java. Sure I've got XP still, but don't believe that's the problem.

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Does it have any effect if you disable the Java plugin in Firefox?

  • Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins

You can try to disable the Java updater that probably automatically gets started when you boot the computer.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if this helps.

You can use the MSConfig program or the Autoruns utility to see which software and services are getting started (be cautious with disabling services).
