Audio has developed a static-y hiccup. I removed and replaced Firefox on ny Windows XP Dell laptop. The audio is fine on Internet Explorer.

I have a new problem with my Dell Latitude E6500 laptop. I use Windows XP and the latest version of Firefox. Audio through websites has a jerky, static-y sound to. Youtube, Ted, Pandora, NPR: all the same. The only site that plays O.K. is a video on the Mozilla site. This started when I downloaded a story from NPR to their player. It was bad, and everything since then, too. I removed Firefox and downloaded it again. Internet Explorer doesn't have this problem. Neither do CDs played through the computer. Suggestions?

Hi,

Please check if this happens in Safe Mode. While in Safe mode you can also try to Disable all the Plugins except Flash in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons. Safe mode disables the installed Extensions, and themes (Appearance) in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Use hardware acceleration when available. All these settings/options/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme, option or hardware acceleration is causing issues. Disabling/enabling hardware acceleration, and some types of add-ons in normal mode may require a Firefox restart.

Please also note that the latest Flash player has a known audio issue. You can try to let the streaming finish and then start the playback.
