Sometimes I close a tab during a session and it immediately reopens itself. It doesn't happen to every tab that I close, it just happens randomly. How do I stop this from happening? I'm not referring to tabs restoring after reopening FF, this happens while I'm browsing during a session. Using FF Quantam 64.0.2

What is in these unwanted tabs? Sites that you visit? Ads? . . . .

It's websites. I close the tab and then whatever was in that tab ( google search, news article, whatever...) that exact same page, will appear in a tab that opens by itself in the exact same position in the tab bar as it was just a moment ago before I closed it.

Are you possibly using Sync?

The keyboard shortcut to reopen a closed tab is Command+Shift+T on Mac.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Nope, not using sync for anything.
