Some e-mails have funny signs in them when the writer has written "I'm". How can I get them to apear normally?

I'm sometimes appears as Ia£tmm but the a has an umlout above and the £ sign is a Euro sign with the tm being like a trade Mark symbol

It is hit an miss. View menu (alt+V) > Text encoding. Specifically selecting unicode may help if it is not selected, as may selecting Western. it also may do nothing.

otherwise look at the font used. To do that you will need to look in the message source (Ctrl+U) and search for the font family For example messages from the forum contain

font-family:Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif

Look for a font name you do not have installed. (probably something one gets with Microsoft office) Then look for a source to download it.

Sorry I have no definitive answers, but it is simple yet complex. Like machine language translation really. Sounds simple, but until now anyway really only good for a laugh.
