What is this nonsense with Firefox now disabling add-ons that they don't "verify"? So far this feature has disabled my fingerprint scan and surfing protection

Talk about a rude awakening! I just discovered that Firefox, without my permission, has disabled add-ons that I specifically allowed previously because they hadn't been "verified" by Firefox! My Advanced Security Surfing protection and my HP SimplePass have been disabled with no option available to restore them given. What gives Firefox, or anyone for that matter, the authority to arbitrarily disable add-ons that I have previously decided to install?

I need to know how to reverse these actions so I have the computer functionality and protection that I have chosen.

In later Firefox% release and beta builds (47+) you may not be able to override this anymore.

Update :

Firefox 46: Release and Beta versions of Firefox will not allow unsigned extensions to be installed, with no override.

Current Firefox releases require extensions to be signed to prevent abuse by malware. In Firefox 43 unsigned extensions will be disabled by default. You can set xpinstall.signatures.required to false to disable this security feature in Firefox 43. In later Firefox% release and beta builds (47+) you may not be able to override this anymore.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
