Trouble getting 'text to voice' addon to work, also Google TTS.
Am using Firefox 42.0 on Mac OS 10.7.5. Currently have Google TTS addon activated, plus Text to Voice addon is activated. Have tried other addons in the past, for example FoxVox - none work.
Have enabled HTML5 TTS API in Firefox using the "about:config" page as directed in the settings instructions for Google TTS.
Appreciate any help, have always had trouble with text to speech with Firefox. It is a feature I use a lot, but is currently the only reason I still log onto Chrome, would be great to stay on Firefox for everything I do if I can get it working.
Thanks. Mike

Are your speakers working? Try an ear plug anyway. Make sure the add-on is active and check it's settings.
Check with it's support site.

Good to get your reply. The problem is something else it seems, when I highlight text and click the TTS bubble the result is an endless processing image inside the bubble that never finishes; the same when I highlight text and click the Text to Voice icon, I then get a popup with a paypal logo and a processing image that never finishes. (would be glad to donate if I can ever get it to work; have noticed other people donating thinking it would fix the problem, but it hasn't).
FredMcD, have tried the earplugs but doesn't seem to be anything there to listen to, otherwise the speakers and earplugs work fine e.g.) youtube videos. I'll try to contact the addon support sites as you suggest.
cor-el, the extensions are enabled, I have tried combinations of enabling TTS and Text to Voice together and separately, but no luck.
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
Cor-el, as I was looking into your solutions I came across the problem. I should have known, but despite running an old mac I'm not to familiar with the mac. Under apple>system preferences>speech I found a setting to speak selected text that becomes activated using a combination of key strokes. Using the key strokes works fine, however clicking the speech bubble does not work on my computer. Cheers and thanks.
