Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

I can get to the point where about:customizing appears in the address bar. But that's where everything halts. It's just a blank page.

I can get to the Customize page in Safe Mode. However it is of no use there, as I'm sure you know.

My LastPass icon is nowhere to be found. I can't use Session Manager to restore previous sessions. Clicking to do that brings no action. Firefox is not saving closed tabs for me: when I look at the Recently Closed Tabs line, it's greyed out.

I have no idea what I'm going to get when I bring up Firefox. Sometimes it comes up in Australis despite my Classic Theme Restorer configuration, and when it does that, most of my extension icons are gone.

I don't like this constant updating because I think it wreaks havoc with the extensions. And the extensions are what Firefox is really all about. If you take away the extensions, Firefox would be a joke.

I checked my Add-Ons page and found that LastPass was gone from it. Something is wrong there, because I didn't disable or uninstall it.

Time to take a deeper look.

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

I went to Advanced SystemCare and unchecked Surfing Protection. Upon restart of Firefox, Customize still is not working. The LastPass icon has disappeared again. Recently Closed Tabs is still greyed out. History has recorded the tabs I opened this session, but did not record the previous session's tabs. (I have no History-clearing configuration anywhere.) "Show my Windows and Tabs from last time" did not work. Session Manager is still not saving sessions.

I have a profile called Troubleshooting that I haven't used in a long time. I just brought it up. Add-ons has been unchecked in Sync. Troubleshooting only has a handful of add-ons now. You will be interested to know that Customize works in Troubleshooting. Recently Closed Tabs shows. It brought back the tabs from last time. I just added LastPass and Session Manager to it, and Customize is still working.

Yes, I have a lot. I normally have them disabled except in a profile I use for shopping. If you are aware of any problems with these, I'm interested in knowing.

So it appears the problem is somewhere in my default profile extensions list.

History appears to be working now. Customize, Recently Closed Tabs, "Show my Windows and Tabs from last time", and Session Manager still not working, and LastPass icon still gone.

By subtraction it would appear that the problem has to be somewhere among these extensions. The first list, the enabled ones; the second list, the disabled ones. Show other threads

Disabled New Tab King, Addon List Dumper (restartless), and Textise. LastPass icon reappeared, but other dysfunctions remain.

Disabling Tab Mix Plus didn't fix anything, and LastPass icon disappeared again. Because Tab Mix Plus was making no problems on the Troubleshooting profile, I didn't expect it would be the culprit.

Tried without success disabling Classic Theme Restorer, SPEEDbit Video Downloader, Memory Fox, and Facebook Phishing Protector.

Disabling GPU Accelerated Flash Player, Menu Editor, Print pages to PDF, Open Tab Count, and ImTranslator didn't help.
