Hello, I am writing as I am experiencing some issues with my favorite web browser after updating to Windows 8.1. Here are some details. I updated from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1 and ever since Firefox has run somewhat strangely. In particular when on sites with a lot of images like Facebook. It is like there is some kind of Flikr effect between the desktop and the images and between the images and the browser (almost like old 16 bit video games flikering). It is not too bad but it is an issue. I have tried resetting firefox and restarting the computer. I haven't tried a repair, and I haven't done an uninstall yet.

I have the same trouble but a little more information. This flicker is the "hour glass' or in win 8.1 "spinning circle of dots' that happens about every 5sec and last 1-2 sec. As if Firefox keeps pausing to load/update something on a page. This can happen on any page and once it starts you must quit FireFox because it slows way down.

I think this is what the OP sees.

Yes, it is very had for me to get a screenshot of it. It isn't actually specific to the images themselves, however it does affect them in way that Ray50 describes. It is almost as if they blur out for a second or two. It can also get a little strange in that the screen may go seemingly "black" with only some of the content rendering in a flicker type effect and then go back to normal. If I can get a screenshot I will try. I would imagine that other users are experiencing this as well. Again after upgrading to windows 8.1

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

First I removed FireFox(v25) and did a new install of v26. OK so far.

If I do have trouble again I will try the above ideas...thanks cor-el.

I uninstalled Firefox, and reinstalled it and am still seeing the issue. Also tried disabling and enabling the hardware acceleration feature and and still seeing the issue when rendering images. Any ideas?

Here is an image. I was able to catch the behavior. Normally the images may blur out just a tad and then go back to normal. In this image they are all one color for a moment which is a little unusual but it does happen. Please let me know if there is a fix for this.

I was able to catch the issue in action. It seems to happen when scrolling or hovering over images. Here is the same issue before and after.

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

  • View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Command+0 on Mac)

Also make sure that your security software isn't causing these problems.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

thank you for helping, the issue seems to have been caused by the hardware accelerator

Today switched to Win 8.1 and was unpleasantly surprised. Same issue, not on all sites but on the ones I open for a first time, the cached ones don't have the issue by now.

I don't wanna make clear install of FF because I have too many add-ons (and specific setting on them) and bookmarks.

Hi vessto,

It is possible to back all of that up by backing up the Profile folder.Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles and Recover important data from an old profile
