Since 28th July 2013 the Facebook home page returns 'unresponsive script' error.
If I click on the name of a person whose birthday it is, the link sends me here: www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn# (which is again the homepage which again gives an unresponsive script)
Is this a Firefox issue, a Facebook one or something else?
Please note I just updated Firefox and the problem prevails. This is not evident in Chrome.

Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.
Unfortunately not. The problem is identical to what it was before doing the factory restore.
Would you like a screen shot?
Ps I meant to say thank you for taking the time and effort to send me that suggestion
please check:Warning Unresponsive script - What it means and how to fix it If you are getting another script error. Please attach a screenshot if possible.
Unfortunately this does not provide the answer. Please note that this started to happen on Sunday and I had not changed any settings on the browser....
follow the steps and surely try safe mode here: : Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems
I tried all of that too. I did a factory reset, updated Flash, Java and everything else that Firefox said was out of date and the problem previals.
I am using no extensions, plug ins etc other than the absolute essentials ie Java etc
Thank you for your efforts tho, it is kind of you to help :)
I am experiencing exactly the same thing. It happens at work and it happens at home. It happens in safe mode and after factory reset. I'm wondering if it's a FaceBook issue although I've not heard anybody complaining. And it just started in July, in the last week or two. Sheesh...
Right, I have got somebody else to log in to Facebook on my internet connection and I have logged on with mine elsewhere and the same thing happens - the 'stop script' message appears.
I have completely uninstalled Firefox then downloaded and reinstalled it. The problem remains.
All started happening in July.
Also, I found that if I hit "continue" about 3 times (rather than stop script) it would eventually load, but after a while would come back. And other thing that's funny is that it's only on the news feed. It doesn't happen on my page or pages of friends. I finally gave up and used Chrome just for FaceBook. I have no idea what that is.
Yes, I have the same thing. Also, if you click on somebody's birthday in the top right hand corner it shows this in the bottom left hand corner https://www.facebook.com/# and the page remains as it is.
If you have any Facebook applications installed, perhaps one of them is not compatible with Firefox for some reason. (I'm not a heavy Facebook user, so I don't have a lot of insight into how to check that.)
FYI. Mine was doing the same thing. Someone down below suggested I install Script yes, or skript yes, forgotten the actual plug-in name. But go find it. My entire Firefox is zipping along like it used to. I didn't realize how slow it had gotten.
This is not just a firefox issue guys, I get the same with chrome. The only constant I have found so far is windows 8. my Firefox AND Chrome under windows 8 use about 600Mb of memory when running facebook, same browsers under windows 7 is about 100mb.
It was only on Firefox at my end, Chrome is fine. Facebook/Firefox began working again last week, today it doesn't (same problem)
There is an identical problem when logging in at the studio.
I am using a seriously trimmed down version of Vista at home and XP at the studio
As for memory, I have two Chrome windows open with 6 tabs (2 x facebook, twitter, logmein.com, yahoo and this one), Open Office Calc and task manager. Memory 73%, running fine. Adding one Firefox window with Facebook to the mix bumps the memory usage up to 95%
Hi BrockneyC, can you test with Flash disabled? Use a Ctrl+Shift+r reload after disabling Flash. Obviously much of the web isn't fun without Flash, but as a diagnostic, does it make any difference to the performance of Facebook.
If so, this is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with Flash. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
(1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.
(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
(B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
(3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista/7/8 -- not applicable to XP)
See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
