hello nix_22, hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not then probably an addon is interfering here... the wrc part of the error message might indicate that it's related to avast! WebRep
Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems
Hi madperson! I removed avast before I tried to start it in safe mode but the problem still persisted. Then tried to start it in safe mode and, hooray! my machine absolutely flies with no trouble at all!! So how do I now sort out the addon interference?? Thanks, you're a life saver!
The name "wrc" mentioned in the chrome URL is usually a hint to which extension is causing such an issue.
You didn't list the extensions, so madperson wasn't able to give more precise instructions.
If it does work in Firefox Safe-mode then disable all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
Thanks cor-el! Think I may have found the problem. Firefox had disabled my outdated version of Java. Busy installing update and then we see! Otherwise I will carry on the enabling one extension
at a time. We live and learn :)
You're welcome.
You may still need to check the extensions if the error returns.
Do you have any clue which extension (name probably starts with a 'W') is causing this hang?
(I've removed your duplicate reply)
OK. I have 2 things that are disabled in Extensions: Browser Manager 2.3.759.138, due to it being known to cause instability and security issues AND IDM cc 7.3.5 which is incompatible with Firefox 16.0.2 . Could these be causing the hitches even if they have been disabled?
No, not when they are disabled.
Maybe you already did something else to get rid of that extension.
Browser Manager from PerformerSoft LLC (browsemngr.dll), possibly added via Babylon, has often been mentioned as the cause of problems, so it is best to remove it.
