First of all, much help for Thunderbird refers to menus which may not be visible. It would help you and us if you have your menus and toolbars visible.

So, open a write window. Enable its menu and toolbar(s).
Now do you see an "Insert" option?
If not, you may be set to compose in plain text, which does not support embedded images.
Tools|Account Settings|{select account}|Composition & Addressing and ensure "Compose messages in HTML format" is ticked. If it wasn't already ticked, go back to composing a message. Any better now?
Once you have HTML composition mode going, you can use Insert|Image or various permutations of copy-and-paste and drag-and-drop into your message body.

Generally if you throw a full sentence at a forum search engine you tend to get a lot of odd stuff - ie once it fails to find an exact match it tends to fall back to partial matches and there are a lot of partial matches for things like "how do I", "my emails" etc. around here.
In any case, assuming you are creating an HTML email, either the Insert/Image menu option, the Insert button, or just dragging and dropping from an explorer window should get the job done.
Thanks, This is my first day on Thunderbird". So excuse me If I sound a little stupid trying to find the brake pedal & door handle. , but I don't see and "insert/Image menu", an Insert button, or any way to drag and drop photos.
Isn't there "How to" instructions somewhere on this site? I can see that there are members adding photos and having their own problems as well.
They say technicians are the worse people to ask How to, so think of me as being a 5 year old. "How do I add photos of my artwork to my emails"?
It sounds like you may be sending a pure text email. That's all I ever send myself. To answer your question I pressed shift while clicking Write to I could create an HTML message for testing. However, if you plan to send HTML messages often, you may want to change your account setting:
Account Settings -> Composition & Addressing -> Compose messages in HTML format.
