Hello, If your issue is that Firefox is closing after a few minutes of downloading a file, can you please try to check if this issue is happening when you run in Safe mode (details below). Also, if you can submit the crash report to Mozilla, we can take a look and see if there is something out of the ordinary happening which could be causing the issue.
Running in safe mode Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
- Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Getting crash report information Please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
- Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
- Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and paste them into your response here.
Thank you for your help!
More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.
Thank you
Some download sites are using a special technique that involves a database file in your settings folder. The best known site like this is Mega. If you are having a problem specifically with Mega, you may need to install the site's add-on. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/meganz/
If it's a traditional download, then ignore this post.
If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:
- bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.
- You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open the crash reports page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps in case your security software is causing problems.
