Computers should not be suddenly unplugged, other than in emergencies (& power failures). Always try to close Firefox using the menu option, File -> quit or whatever is shown in the Firefox XP menu, then also close down Windows XP and wait before turning off the power and unplugging. If you have been crashing a lot that in itself may cause problems.
