No videos play in your browser as of late, maybe 3-4 days. YouTube works, but everything else, Freepik, Twitter, Bluesky, video previews, nothing works.

I'm getting videos autoplaying silently on Bluesky even though my general autoplay setting is "Block Audio and Video". Maybe because playback is triggered by scrolling a new post into view? (Allow or block media autoplay in Firefox)

Is it possible you have an add-on that more aggressively stops videos from (auto)playing?

If nothing specific comes to mind, could you test in Firefox's Troubleshoot Mode? In that mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is running:

You can restart Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > Troubleshoot Mode...
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Troubleshoot Mode...

and OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button.

If Firefox is not running:

Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.) A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button.

Note: Don't use the Refresh without first reviewing this article to understand what will be deleted: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Any improvement?

I have a copy of YouTube's old HTML5 video diagnostic page. If you load the page, you should see:

supported probably probably supported supported supported

If yours differs, which rows show a problem?

On youtube I have this Youtube "play button" in the middle of the screen and, possibly hard to see, buffering behind that button and above the thumbnail, which didn't even load to black screen. On Bluesky, the video unmutes once I click it and the duration loads, but once I click, the play button doesn't change to pause, the video doesn't start, it's just like that no matter if it's off of the timeline or if I go to the post directly. The same goes for facebook and twitter, exactly the same result

Videos on Freepik and similar pages from where I get assets to work off of don't load either, they all go to black screen, play button not changing to pause once I click them, sound unmuting too, but of course no sound plays cause video doesn't load

I am on newest firefox version, updated to make sure it's not that which is the problem, and I'm on Windows 10, also updated, I think last friday
