Firefox very slow to load some websites lately

At some point in the last few weeks -- possibly after an upgrade -- I've noticed that some websites such as the Washington Post and Fidelity can take minutes rather than seconds to load. The problem doesn't seem to be with the sites themselves (because they load fine on Chrome) or with my hardware (because exactly the same thing happens on both of my computers). Has anyone else noticed this?

( I'm running Firefox 131.0.3 on Windows.)

Windows what? What security software are you running? LAN or WiFi? I'm currently in another country and Fidelity in the US loads in under 2 seconds for me. see screenshot Did you try with Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode#w_how-to-start-firefox-in-4troubleshoot-modesf5safe-modesf

You also need to pay attention when there are delays loading a site. Look in the bottom left corner of the browser and it will tell you what it's waiting for.

Thanks for your reply. It's been helpful just to notice that others aren't chiming in to say they've been experiencing the same problem. So presumably this isn't an issue with a recent FF release.

In answer to your questions, I'm running Windows 10 + Avast One security software (both before and since the slowdown began, so I doubt it's responsible) + on Wifi.

I'm in the process of experimenting with FF in safe mode, and so far am not seeing the same problem. If that continues to be the case, I guess I'll have to start disabling my plugins (Decentraleyes, uBlock Origin, a password manager, and a few more) one by one to see if any of them are causing the issue.

May the Schwartz be with you. 🤣 😂 🤣

I've been experimenting and have discovered that the sites load reasonably fast when FF is closed down and reopened, but after a couple of days they get slower and slower. (There's a name for that issue, which I forget.) After fiddling around with safe mode, I'm pretty sure this is not due to plugins, or, for that matter, security software or anything else on my end.

Along with FF's recent tweak that makes it impossible for users to opt out of forced restarts (after forced downloads of updates), which I wrote about in a separate post today, this browser is becoming decidedly less appealing.
