Hello ~

I have new Linux based latest Thunderbird. New Linux Mint 20. Also, I have a Win 10 based Thunderbird. With the Linux based version, the blue status bar at the lower bottom often keeps moving. With some mail, I click to let email download images, and then the bar stops. With some emails without images the bar may or may not stop moving when selecting the email. Selecting some folders, may or may not, have the blue bar keep moving or not. If the bar is finally stopped and then I select some other folder or email, and then go back to folder or email which had a stopped bar, the bar will start to move again.

What does the bar indicate exactly? Why does it not remember the folder or mail that had a stopped bars when going back to that folder or email? Why does the bar not ever stop with some folders or mail?

~ Thanks

The bar indicates that IMAP synchronization is occurring. This can be anything from as you indicate getting some images to checking the validity of the folder and it's contents. The less you store locally the more the bar has to download on demand.

Matt~ That all makes sense, the synchronization and all.

However, for example, my Apple IMAP account in TB has 5 emails in the inbox. I have 10 other folders holding manually transferred in mail from my in box. I've removed all the filters for now. All of folders and individual mail show as I have read them. When I click on the inbox, the bar never stops. Hours later the bar is still moving. Sometimes it does this.

I click on an email in that inbox. The bar moves and stops. I click on a couple of other emails the bar may or may not stop. I go back to the first one I clicked. Now the bar will not stop. I click on some other folder and back to the inbox. Now the bar will not stop.

I can't say it's 100% random whether the bar moves or not, or stops. I just can't see the pattern yet. Sometimes the bar will move on a particular email sometimes it won't.

I have email images set to need my permission to download.

I have compacted every account and folder - multiple times. I have rebuilt every folders. I have turned off automatic mail checking in every server setting. I have searched without much success for a solution.

I believe there are a few data files in my .thunderbird folder which can be corrupted. And can be deleted and then automatically rebuild when restarting TB. I've been a bit hesitant to do this however. I do not want to break the TB!

The moving bar is a distraction when it keeps going and going.

Thanks for your comments. Greatly appreciated. If you have another thought or suggestion what may be the cause or what may be a solution, please do let me know.
