Firefox 57.0.3 killed gmail links, everything else is OK, what to do?
Apparently ONLY gmail is not working. Comes up with cookie errors immediately after updating to 57.0.3 a day or so ago.
To access gmail that used to be just a click, I have to first clear cookies for gmail, and then enter mu username and password.
Since installing 57.0.3, I must do this each and every time I access gmail.
Prior to 57.0.3, I could just click the link, or open gmail directly. It used to show my other accounts if I hit the initial button, but no longer even shows that option.
Do I need to just migrate away from the now-outmoded Firefox browser and use Chrome?

Version 57.0.3 is the modern Firefox Quantum browser. No reason for Gmail not to work. Please look at my attached screen shot and see how it compares with your Privacy & Security settings.
You might need to click Exceptions and set accounts.google.com as "Allow" or "Allow for Session".
Everything is just as your picture suggests.
No problem with 57 prior to 57.0.3, but INSTANTLY had the problem when that fouled up version was installed.
As for adding exceptions and so forth, please explain why this is now needed specially for google. NO OTHER SITE IS A PROBLEM, JUST GOOGLE MAIL. It's as if you were targeting gmail specifically to make it a problem.

It was never a problem before, so I have to assume you folks "broke it". Please fix it.
The problem started specifically and immediately with 57.0.3. The previous versions of 57 were OK for this. That is not a question, it is a positive statement of truth.
The downloaded file messed up the settings that previously existed. Not a nice download, not tha way it should be. You should leave settings alone and not mess them up.
Looks like the best solution is to dump Firefox and install Chrome. I do not want to have to do that.

uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.3 with a Full Version Installer

It would be simpler to install Chrome.
Since it is clear that everything was fine until the new version was installed as an update from 57.0.2, and that 57.0.3 is the cause of the problem, why are you suggesting an hour of work on my part to solve a problem of bad install or buggy software? I have zero confidence that it would help, and no time for nonsense.
I've cleaned up the system relatively recently, but well prior to this issue.
I propose to IGNORE the advice.... it falls into the category of the usual IT person suggestion: "Wipe it and restore".
It's completely obvious that the change was made by the update to 57.0.3. NO OTHER FIREFOX UPDATE HAS EVER DONE SUCH A THING, AND I HAVE HAD VERSIONS SINCE THE SINGLE DIGITS.

I'm personally using 57.0.3 with no problems. I suggested you check the Exceptions dialog box as a Troubleshooting step. It is set as an exception in mine, but that's been so for a very long time, not just since the upgrade. If you can eliminate that as an issue, then we can look for other causes.
It works on other computers with 8.1 as is no changes, Just seamlessly installed and kept everything fine. Probably OK with 10 also.
NOT with Win 7. I am not the only one who has noticed this, Others have commented on other forums.
What are you suggesting the exception should do? And in what S/W? In the google stuff, or in FF?
Now using FF57.0.4.
Problem is unchanged. I tried setting the exceptions that were apparently suggested, but no help.
I can only set cookies to "not kept" in which case google mail DOES NOT WORK, or leave as is, which causes the "we have detected cookie problems" error message.
I am NOT going to clear ALL cookies, and I prefer not to delete firefiox and risk losing them that way. I CAN get into the mail if I manually go in and clear the google cookie each and every time I want to access mail after FF has been closed. I also have to manually re-enter the passwords, and sometimes the mail address.
This ONLY happened AFTER the "downgrade" to 57.0.3, so drastic solutions are obviously NOT needed.
and it ONLY happens with Win 7. Win 8.1 never had a problem. I do not know about the computer that has Vista on it still. That one was slated to be upgraded to 7. (7 at least has SOME compatibility with some very expensive older programs, 8 and above would cost me thousands of $$ to upgrade.)

Are you using ad blocker or script blockers? If nothing was changed in FF then something else your using is causing the problem. I am W10 Defender and MS Firewall and have no issue with FF57.0.4 when going to gmail.

Same ublock origin adblocker that was not a problem before 57.0.3 is still in use with FF now on 57.0.4.
If it worked before, with nothing changed, then it SHOULD work still, and not be a problem. I do not want to have to discontinue use just for this one problem.... Firefox should not be such a "special snowflake" that requires all sorts of coddling all of a sudden.
This LITERALLY came up as soon as 57.0.3 update occurred. When I next started FF, it came up with "cookie setting problems", but ONLY for gmail. Dozens of other useful cookies were not affected, so I am unwilling to delete the lot after each session.
This is Win7, remember. 8.1 has no problems that I have seen.
The only clue I have is that if I open FF again soon after closing it, things work. Any delay over a couple minutes causes me to have to go in and manually delete the google cookies. Possibly just a cache clearing delay?
if I could select just google cookies to have deleted after the session, that would work. But I do NOT get that as a choice.
I would have to set it to delete ALL, and then select specific ones to NOT delete, which is the reverse of what I need, and virtually impossible to manage in any reasonable way.
So the previous response to "set exceptions" given above is not very useful. The available options I have are not accepted by google, other than the "nuclear option" of deleting everything and having to select what NOT to delete as exceptions.
Since I already know that deleting the google cookie allows me to at least "access" my mail, even if it does not allow direct access, I do not see what added info is provided if I set it to delete ALL cookies, and doing that would be a LOT more hassle. (I still have to enter passwords, which I did not need to do before, but that is easier than needing to enter them for EVERYTHING)

I'm no longer sure about the delay I mentioned above. The last few times, it has required clearing the google cookie each time, despite an instant restart.
But, for instance, everything at this site is remembered, all forum logins are remembered, I do not have to re-log in. OTHER mail, such as Yahoo mail, is no problem, I do not have to go through hoops to get IT to work.
The only other thing is that the google recent stuff only comes up after I clear the cookie. Otherwise it is blank.
But ALL the problems are Google related. That is why I am reluctant to delete and reinstall, or do the other drastic options given.
Almost seems like "Firefox not done if Google will run".
Just crickets here?

And it is still THE ONLY site that has the problem. So, what has the FF crew done to sabotage Google?
This cannot be that difficult.
But if it is, I am sure Chrome will work perfectly with google. More and more people seem to be going that way, dumping Firefox. although I would like to avoid it.

@jstanley, your speculation has no merits here. I use FF and Chrome to access Gmail and have no issues like your having. Also I have Google set as home page without problems on FF. So the bases of your conflict has nothing to do with either FF or Chrome but more like user settings and if your not going to dig into what the user did no one can fix user created problems here if one isn't willing to finding the cause.
Well, what have I not done that I should do?
I have been asked to delete everything and start over, and now I am told that if I donlt want to do that I am not willing to solve the problem.
I set up FF options as requested (it already was). NO CHANGE.
Now you are apparently asking me to blow away all my FF info, passwords, etc,. A "Nuclear option" which may involve many hours of work. It seems disproportionate to the issue since everything but ONE item works fine.
The actual problem is persistent and limited to a specific area, google cookies. AND it is limited to Win 7, as 8.1 works fine no issues.
You are using win 10 and so you likely do not have the issue. I HAVE TO use 7 for this machine.
That sounds far more likely to be some specific issue, and not a grand global setting issue that should have affected every cookie in the entire list.
So why am I being told to use the nuclear option and cause myself hours of work?
And why the petulant "if you will not do the huge thing we suggest, we won't help you"?
I ask again, what specific check do you want me to do aside from blowing away everything and starting over?
Rather than just say "do this", when "this" is a huge effort, you should do some sort of explanation of why it will fix the problem. It is very easy to tell others to go to a lot of work. That costs you nothing.
That is more true when the problem is one specific item, and everything else works OK, even that same function in other places.

As for "USER CREATED PROBLEMS" and "WHAT THE USER DID".... THAT comment has no application here whatsoever.
As I have explained SEVERAL TIMES....
I have been operating firefox without changing defaults or anything else about it, aside from using two add-ins, the Photobucket fix, and the Ublock ad blocker.
The add-ins have been turned off and deleted with no change to the google problem.
All that was done to suddenly cause this google cookie problem was to allow firefox to update to 57.0.7. No special changes of any sort were made, it was simply accepted as-is.
So, WHERE is this "USER CREATED PROBLEM"? You are simply not explaining what you could possibly mean.
The only "USER CREATED PROBLEM" seems to be just using firefox 57.0.3 to begin with. Because THAT was all that changed to create the problem.
The "USER" has done nothing other than allow the update, and the problem instantly was present.
REMEMBER there was no problem with everything the same, before 57.0.3 was installed. original 57 was fine, there was no issue once I located all the controls. The first update to 57 was fine. But 57.0.3 made it fail.

There is a reason do wipe as you so call it. It clears the folders of patched after patch of Netscape code and makes new folders of clean Quantum code. This also gets rid of any corrupted file that is causing the issue. By doing this if the problem is still there then know the issue is possibly in the Profile. This takes a lot less time than a Refresh that wipes out all of your customization. So yes, there is a reason to the madness and not just because. Regards

Well, I did exactly what you said. Took maybe an hour.
All profile info is gone (except backup). Firefox install appears to have performed a refresh, which it was not supposed to do.
So there is I think no profile info in firefox right now. maybe that is not true.
The problem was still present. I got the same message as one hour ago before I took all the trouble.

Have you thought of posting this on the Windows/Microsoft forum. You say you only get the issue on your Windows 7 machine and not your Windows 8.1 and that you must retain 7 on that one. Maybe that's where the issue lies.
