I have an ad blocker installed which my ISP wants disabled for me to online chat. However when I go to add ons I can find no ad blocker programs listed. I remember installing an ad blocker some years back and assume it is still there working away. How do I disable something I can't see? Searched around but can't find a directory for ad block or u block. Cheers

Hello there, if you paste "about:support" into your URL Browser bar. You can scroll down to your active extensions, to verify which you have. If they don't appear, attempt to reinstall your AdBlockers.

Hi   !

Could it be that you have an adblocker installed on Edge (or IE, whichever Windows browser you have running)  ?

Discovered Hidden Add-on On Firefox. How To Check Yours https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/support-forum-contributors/711335

Type chrome://mozapps/content/extensions/extensions.xul?<enter> in the address bar.

Thanks guys! No sign of ad blocker or Ublock or anything that looks like it is ad block software. Trying to remember back... I wonder if I deinstalled it some time ago and yet the "ghost" of it is still in the machine. Does anyone know where these progs might reside? What part of the registry would they most likely be in? I'll poke around but if you know please tell me. Thanks in advance. Zachary, I had forgotten about support. It's been years since I had a problem with firefox so thanks for reminding me.

a) Have you looked at FredMcD's post  ? b) Have you checked Windows Settings => Apps  ?

Type about:support in the address bar and press Enter. Under the main banner, press the button; Copy Text To Clipboard.. Now in the Reply Box on the forum page, do a right-click in the box and select Paste.

This will show us your system details. No Personal Information Is Collected.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks and history and cookies and passwords and cache and exceptions, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

Websites often tell you something that is ONLY A GUESS. Before driving yourself crazy looking all over your system, consider whether there might be another reason for this mistaken guess. For example:

  • Anti-tracking feature: What happened to Tracking Protection?
  • Anti-tracking add-on, for example: Blur, Ghostery, or Privacy Badger
  • Script blocking extension, for example: NoScript or uMatrix

Thanks guys. Just wanted to say am busy and will try your suggestions in a day or so. Didn't want you thinking I was unappreciative. Cheers.

HI guys, above is about support page. I tried the clear cache and other stuff. I also ran through the registry to see if I could see anything labelled adblock but nothing. Does anyone know the registry keys for adblock? cheers

You inadvertently marked your last post as 'Chosen Solution' - you can rectify that by clicking on the 'Undo' button on the right side of that post.

May I suggest that you disable (or better still : remove) your AVAST software  ? That just might be the culprit ......

yep, I thought it might be a drop down menu offering a different answer...

The thing is that ad block IS working and it's doing what it's supposed to do as other web pages report "you have ad block enabled" and yet I can't see where in my computer it is. Turning off anti virus seems a little extreme. I'll give it a go tomorrow

Did you do what FredMcD suggested in his first post and paste in the address bar : chrome://mozapps/content/extensions/extensions.xul? and then press Enter  ?

yes I did that before asking the question. It shows widevine decryption shockwave flash and openh264 video codec

I can see a couple refences to adblock in the avast installation xml file but thats all

Other users without ad block have also received that message. It's a false positive. Disable your other blockers as a test.

I repeat my penultimate post :
