When I used to hit the bookmark tab it immediately gave me the dropdown box allowing me to pick location; I would scroll (sometimes it was a bit quirky, but ok), pick the folder I wanted, and it finished up immediately. Now when I select 'bookmark this page' or (apple) command-D, I get the SWIRLY BALL of death, and after a few moments the dropdown box flashes briefly but disappears before I can use it. I have to hit the 'bookmark this page' or keystroke command-D AGAIN, whereupon the dropdown box reappears, usually immediately and stays, but once I pick the folder I want for my bookmark and select it, I get the swirly ball AGAIN, and have to wait, tapping my foot for several more seconds for it to do its work before I can move on to something else. 2009 MBPro 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo / 8gigs 1067 MHz DDR3, running OS 10.9.5 and Firefox 49.0.1.

Places Maintenance {web link} Allows to run Maintenance tasks on the database that drives Places, the bookmarks and history module behind Firefox.

Open the Add-ons Manager. Locate the add-on and press the Options button. Then follow the directions.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?
