Hello. I addressed this issue in support of Twitch, and they sent me to you. I have black bars on the sides of the stream when I look at Twitch. In the screenshot you see them. In full screen mode, or on other sites (YouTube), there are no such problems. Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.
- Clear the Cache and
- Remove Cookies
Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.
Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.
- Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
- Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.
If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). While you are in safe mode;
Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.
Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.
Poke around safe websites. Are there any problems?
Then restart.

On the left side of the page, select Appearance. Then select Default.

Could you give a link to the page you screenshotted? When I poke around on Twitch TV, there is a left sidebar (or left and right sidebar), so I don't think I'm in the right area, or I'm not clicking the correct display options.

Okay, what's happening here is, when you are not in full screen mode, and you minimize one or both sidebars the black rectangle behind the video is widened to fill the space and becomes wider than 16:9. Flash does not distort the aspect ratio of the video to fit the box, instead it fits one dimension (height, usually, unless you make the browser window very narrow) and computes the width accordingly, which leaves black margins on both sides.
For what it's worth, I see the identical behavior in Google Chrome when I minimize one or both sidebars.
