After update, Thunderbird randomly changes emails to unread status
After updating to 38.7.1 there have been numerous problems, including read emails randomly being changed back to unread status, and even disappearing from the inbox, only to reappear later for no apparent reason. The change from read to unread is not dependent on the amount of time the message was open, and happens to emails that were only read, not replied or forwarded. These messages might have been marked as read for a minute or so, before randomly changing back to unread while they are not even open. As for messages disappearing, I can delete some messages, which might, or might not, go to the trash folder, but others that were not selected also disappear from the inbox and do not appear anywhere else that I can find. They typically reappear in the inbox within a few minutes, some marked as read, others as unread. Furthermore, TB usually will no longer download messages unless I log out and back in again. Sometimes, moving messages to a different folder causes TB to get new mail, but only occasionally. Many of my incoming work emails are time sensitive. Please help!

There have been many users recently who have reported that Thunderbird will only download messages when it starts: to get more mail they have to log out and then in again. That's one of the issues that you describe. So far as I've observed the common link between all those people is that they have email accounts with a company called Go Daddy. Are you another? Our inference is that something odd is / has been going on with GD's servers. The other behaviour you describe (emails changing status, disappearing and reappearing) are probably server related too. If you are a GD customer, our advice is that you consult them and look in their forum to see what their other customers report.
